Donauraum Wien focuses on sustainable technologies and intelligent port solutions to make shipping along the Danube more climate-friendly. Key topics include energy efficiency, waste and wastewater management, and the responsible use of resources in an urban environment.
Our goal: Low-emission and sustainable port operations for a liveable Danube in Vienna.
From 2026 onwards, all moorings at the Vienna Shipping Center will be equipped with modern shore power technology. Up to 27 vessels at 9 fully equipped berths can be supplied simultaneously with 100% green electricity – instead of diesel generators.
This significantly reduces noise and exhaust emissions and improves the quality of life and stay for local residents and visitors.
A standardized waste management concept ensures that residual waste, paper, glass and recyclables are collected and disposed of separately. This measure reduces the volume of residual waste and makes disposal logistics for river cruise vessels more efficient.
In this way, the port actively contributes to conserving resources and maintaining urban cleanliness.
Wastewater collected on board (black water, grey water and bilge water) as well as sewage are disposed of at our port facilities by licensed specialist companies. An important contribution to protecting the Danube as a natural habitat and living environment.
Sustainability is an integral part of our corporate strategy. In addition to technical solutions, we focus on continuous improvement processes and partnerships with the city, energy providers and European institutions.
